On September 30, 2016, during their SCOPE (Science Career Opportunities and Partnership Experience) class, Kenner Discovery HOSA members were given the opportunity to hear from one of their P.E. teachers. It might not sound big, but this coach is a caregiver of the famous Saint’s player, Steve Gleason. The coach talked about ALS and how it affects the body. He said people with ALS are aware of their surroundings, but can’t respond to it. He showed HOSA members this feeling by telling them not to move for one minute. Not a single muscle could move. This inspired HOSA members to help join the fight against ALS and to be more compassionate to those who are affected by ALS.
